Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to ensure the immediate release of two missing Kenyan citizens, Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, who were reportedly abducted by individuals linked to Uganda’s security agencies.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Omtatah described their disappearance as a serious violation of human rights and international law, criticizing the continued silence from Ugandan authorities.
“The enforced disappearance of Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, both Kenyan citizens, following their abduction on Ugandan soil by elements linked to the Ugandan security apparatus, is a grave violation of human rights and international law,” Omtatah said.
According to official records from the High Court of Uganda, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have denied holding the two men in custody. Their whereabouts remain unknown, sparking growing concern for their safety.
Omtatah urged President Museveni, the Government of Kenya, the East African Community (EAC), and international human rights organizations to act swiftly to locate and secure the duo’s release.
“I call upon President @KagutaMuseveni and the Government of Uganda to locate and release Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi without delay. Kenya stands firm and united in defending the rights and dignity of its citizens everywhere,” he stated.
The senator also emphasized that the silence and uncertainty surrounding their disappearance are unacceptable, insisting that justice must prevail.
His remarks came a day after Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) condemned the Museveni government for defying court orders to produce the two Kenyans. Bobi Wine compared the case to that of Ugandan activist Sam Mugumya, who also went missing under similar circumstances.
The two Kenyans were allegedly abducted on October 1, 2025, while attending a National Unity Platform (NUP) rally in Kampala. Despite mounting pressure, the Ugandan government has denied any knowledge of their whereabouts.
