Residents of Nyanginja and Bondo Junction in Siaya County are in shock following the brutal killing of a local egg vendor, Christine Achieng. Her lifeless body was discovered on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in a bush within Nyandiwa sublocation.
According to eyewitness accounts, a shepherd stumbled upon the body and immediately raised the alarm, drawing villagers to the scene. The victim was reportedly found half-naked, lying in a pool of blood, with her throat slit. The horrifying discovery has left the community shaken and calling for swift justice.
Local leaders confirmed that investigations have begun, but no suspects have been arrested so far. Residents have been urged to cooperate with authorities and share any information that might aid in identifying the killer.
Friends and acquaintances described Achieng as a hardworking woman who once sold eggs around Bondo Junction. However, in recent weeks, she had stopped vending eggs and was said to have shifted to running a small bar business in Usenge, Bondo sub-county.
Fellow traders at Bondo Junction expressed sorrow and anger over her death. “Christine was part of our group, but we had not seen her in a while. Her death has deeply shocked us,” one of her colleagues said.
The tragedy has reignited public concern over rising cases of femicide in Siaya County. Many residents say women have increasingly become targets of violent crimes, and justice for victims is often slow or elusive. “Femicide cases in Siaya are alarmingly common. We demand quick and transparent investigations—justice delayed is justice denied,” another resident lamented.
Achieng’s body was taken to the Siaya County Referral Mortuary as police continue their investigations.
This latest killing adds to a string of gruesome murders reported in the region. Only three days earlier, a five-year-old girl was found murdered and dumped near Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Siaya town.
In a separate incident, detectives arrested a man linked to the death of Jane Atila, a University of Nairobi student who went missing in mid-October. Her decomposed body was later discovered in a forest in Kiambu County.
The repeated incidents have sparked outrage across Kenya, with citizens calling for stronger law enforcement and better protection for women and girls.
