A former security guard at Papino Apartment, George Gitau Mwangi, recently testified in the ongoing murder trial of socialite Starlet Wahu, recounting his discovery of the victim’s body in January 2024. Gitau, who had been working on the night of Wahu’s death, explained how he came to learn about a person leaving the apartment shortly after he had been on the rooftop. Gitau stated that he was not initially aware of anyone leaving the apartment until his colleague, Joseph Ndung’u, called him to ask if he had seen a man walking out with a white towel wrapped around his neck.
Following this, Gitau and his colleague reviewed CCTV footage from the building’s security cameras, which showed a man, later believed to be the primary suspect, John Matara, exiting the apartment. The footage prompted them to investigate further. The two security guards followed a trail of bloodstains, which led them to house Y32 on the fourth floor of the building.
Upon arrival, they found the door to the apartment locked from the inside. Gitau then called the apartment owner, who arrived shortly after with a key to the unit. When they entered, they discovered Wahu’s lifeless body. She was found naked near the door with visible injuries to her neck. Blood was found leading from the bedroom into the sitting room.
Gitau immediately informed the owner of the apartment about the gruesome discovery and advised her to report the matter to the police. His testimony plays a pivotal role in the case, as it helps establish the sequence of events leading up to Wahu’s tragic death.
The trial, which has attracted considerable attention, continues with more witnesses set to testify, including experts who may provide further insights into the investigation.
