In the ongoing inquest into the death of Jeff Mwathi, two prominent pathologists have confirmed in court that there was no evidence of sexual assault. The revelations came during testimony on October 21, 2025, when retired government pathologist Peter Ndegwa and his colleague, Johansen Oduor, appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi.
Dr. Ndegwa, who was the first pathologist to handle Mwathi’s body, stated clearly that there was no indication of sexual assault. During a cross-examination by the lawyer representing Lawrence Njuguna (commonly known as DJ Fatxo), a person of interest in the case, Ndegwa was asked about any findings of sexual assault. His response was straightforward: “no.”
Dr. Oduor, who conducted a second autopsy at the request of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), also supported Ndegwa’s findings. He told the court that after exhuming the body, there were no signs suggesting any form of sexual assault. The DCI had sought the second autopsy after rumors circulated on social media claiming such an assault had occurred prior to Mwathi’s death.
The defense lawyer representing DJ Fatxo, Duncan Okatch, further elaborated on the emergence of the sexual assault claims, noting that they only gained traction weeks after Mwathi’s burial when social media platforms started circulating various theories. Okatch pointed to an affidavit from Corporal Philip Kilonzo, which mentioned these allegations, noting that the theories had significantly influenced the ongoing investigation.
Samidoh, a popular Mugithi artist and witness in the case, also testified in court, confirming that the sexual assault rumors had indeed gone viral on social media. Samidoh recounted that the allegations had contributed to the decision to exhume Mwathi’s body for further investigation. He noted that public figures, including Senator Karen Nyamu, had made their own speculations about the cause of Mwathi’s death on social media.
Despite the online controversy, both autopsies conducted by the government pathologists found no evidence to support claims of sexual assault. The inquest is scheduled to continue on October 23, 2025, with additional testimonies from the family’s pathologist and a crime scene expert.
