Police in Embakasi have arrested four men in connection with the theft of lentils at a storage facility within the area. The suspects were apprehended during a joint operation involving local law enforcement officers and community members after a tip-off about a planned break-in.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects were caught in the act at the Rama Homes godowns, where they were found loading bags of lentils onto a lorry. Officers moved in swiftly and managed to intercept them before they could escape with the stolen goods. The lorry, which had been prepared for a quick getaway, was seized at the scene.
The four suspects, identified as Patrick Mwangi Njue, Patrick Kariuki Karobia, Emmanuel Masika Bichi, and Thomas Mucho Sikulova, were taken into custody. Crime scene officers documented the location, secured key evidence, and processed the suspects ahead of their arraignment in court. The arrests highlight the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with security agencies in addressing crime at the local level.
The incident has raised concerns about rising cases of theft in storage facilities within urban areas, where food commodities and other goods are often targeted due to their high value and demand. Security officials have urged business owners to invest in tighter surveillance and enhance cooperation with local authorities to curb such crimes.
This case also comes shortly after another operation in Isiolo, where police recovered 41 stolen animals following a report of livestock theft in the Bonji Dam area. In that instance, a multi-agency security team managed to recover 16 sheep and 25 goats, arresting two suspects linked to the incident. The animals were secured at a local police post pending return to their rightful owner.
Both incidents reflect the growing emphasis on intelligence-led operations and the importance of timely information from the public. Security agencies continue to encourage citizens to report suspicious activities promptly, assuring that such efforts will lead to quick interventions and successful arrests.
The four Embakasi suspects remain in custody, awaiting arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered lentils and the intercepted lorry have been secured as evidence in the ongoing case.
