Police officers in Kiambu County have arrested a suspected drug peddler in Githurai 45 after recovering a large stash of cannabis sativa. The 28-year-old man was found with 1,473 rolls of bhang and an additional 2.1 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis during a planned operation targeting narcotics in the area.
According to officers involved in the operation, the suspect was traced to his rented house in Githurai 45, where a thorough search was conducted. The team discovered hundreds of neatly rolled cannabis joints and several kilos of loose cannabis, believed to be intended for distribution within the surrounding neighborhoods. Authorities also recovered KSh5,470 in cash, which is suspected to have been proceeds from drug sales.
The arrest comes amid intensified operations by law enforcement agencies in Kiambu County, who have been cracking down on narcotics and illicit substances across densely populated areas. Githurai has been flagged as one of the hotspots for drug trafficking and peddling, with young people being the primary targets for illegal substances. Security officials have reiterated that such operations will continue to disrupt the supply chain and dismantle networks involved in the illegal trade.
The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to possession and distribution of narcotic drugs. Police have emphasized that they are not only pursuing small-scale peddlers but also working to trace larger suppliers and financiers of the trade.
Residents of Githurai have expressed concerns over the increasing availability of narcotics in the area, noting that it has fueled crime and negatively impacted the youth. Authorities have therefore urged the public to support the fight against drugs by providing credible information that can help in identifying and arresting offenders.
The National Police Service has called on citizens to make use of toll-free hotlines and WhatsApp channels to report criminal activities anonymously. They further assured the public of their continued commitment to protecting communities from the harmful effects of drugs and other illicit activities.
This arrest is part of a broader nationwide effort to combat narcotics, following a surge in drug-related crimes. With constant monitoring and community involvement, security officials remain optimistic that such seizures will significantly reduce the circulation of illegal substances in urban centers like Githurai.
