Police officers in Garissa Town have intensified the war against narcotics after arresting a suspected drug peddler in the Ziwani area. Acting on intelligence reports, officers based at Garissa Police Station staged a raid at the suspect’s residence where they recovered narcotics and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal trade.
During the operation, the police found 20 balls of cannabis sativa (bhang) stashed in a red carrier bag. Alongside the drugs, they recovered KSh1,800 in assorted denominations suspected to have been earned through the sale of the narcotics. The suspect was immediately apprehended and placed in custody at Garissa Police Station. The seized substances were secured as exhibits, and the suspect is expected to be processed and arraigned in court in the coming days.
The successful raid underscores the ongoing efforts by security agencies to clamp down on the supply and distribution of illegal drugs in urban and rural areas. Police in Garissa have in recent months stepped up operations targeting drug dens and traffickers, responding to community complaints about the negative impact of narcotics on young people.
Another Drug Bust in Kitui County
In a separate incident, security officers in Kitui County also conducted a major drug bust. Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, officers from Kyatune Police Post, working in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers, raided the home of a known drug trafficker in Malana village.
During the search, the officers uncovered 12 bundles of cannabis sativa concealed in a sack within the compound. The suspect was arrested on the spot and taken into custody pending processing and court arraignment. The confiscated drugs were preserved as exhibits.
Both operations highlight the vital role of community intelligence in curbing the menace of drug trafficking. Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that can lead to the arrest of drug dealers and dismantling of supply networks.
The crackdown in Garissa and Kitui comes amid increased pressure from law enforcement agencies to disrupt the circulation of narcotics that continue to fuel addiction, crime, and social instability across various counties. Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that offenders are brought to justice and that communities are safeguarded from the dangers posed by illicit drugs
