The reign of terror unleashed by a notorious gang in Kisii and Nyamira counties has been brought to an end after police successfully arrested three suspects believed to be behind a string of violent robberies, rape, and defilement cases.
The trio, identified as William Obiero Gekonge, James Mogaka Otego, and Justus Ondieki Nyabuto, had for months instilled fear among residents, leaving behind a trail of trauma and loss. Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), working alongside officers from Kenyanya and Nyamira, linked the group to at least three major robberies: two in Ramasha and one in Magena.
One particularly disturbing incident involved a 96-year-old grandmother who was attacked at her home in the dead of night. The elderly woman, a devout Catholic, attempted to pray for the intruders upon their arrival. Although the gang briefly bowed their heads in a moment of mock reverence, their actions quickly turned vile. They consumed milk she had stored for her medication, devoured all available food, and carted away electronics, leaving the frail woman shaken and helpless.
Investigators noted that the suspects had been operating with a high degree of impunity, often using a motorcycle to facilitate their movements between crime scenes. Their spree left residents of Kisii and Nyamira counties gripped with fear, with reports of sexual violence and robberies increasing in recent months.
Following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, CRIB detectives mounted a well-coordinated operation that led to the capture of the three. They were flushed out of their hideouts in Kisii, where stolen property, including electronics and the motorcycle, was recovered during the raid.
Police confirmed that the suspects are in custody and are currently undergoing interrogation and processing. They are expected to be arraigned in court to face multiple charges, including robbery with violence, rape, and defilement. Authorities have assured the public that further investigations are underway to establish if the suspects were linked to additional crimes in the region.
The arrests have brought relief to many families who had lived in constant fear of attacks. Community leaders have praised the swift action by law enforcement and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue working closely with security agencies to curb criminal activities in the area.
