Police in Bomet County have intensified their ongoing crackdown on illicit alcohol, leading to the arrest of two suspects during a multi-agency operation in Kinyogi Village, Sugumeriga Location, Chepalungu Sub-county. The raid, carried out on October 28, 2025, targeted individuals involved in the production and sale of unregulated brews that continue to endanger public health and safety.
According to police reports, the operation was jointly conducted by officers from Chepalungu Police Station and the National Government Administration Officers. The team arrested two individuals found in possession of seven litres of Busaa, 240 litres of Kangara, and five litres of Chang’aa. The suspects were taken into custody at Chepalungu Police Station and were expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the illegal production and distribution of illicit alcohol.
Authorities indicated that the operation forms part of an ongoing national campaign to eliminate illicit brews, which continue to pose significant health and social risks in many communities. The campaign seeks to dismantle networks of illegal alcohol producers and sellers while ensuring public awareness of the dangers associated with consuming unregulated substances.
Police have reiterated their commitment to working closely with local administrators and community members in identifying and shutting down illicit brewing dens. They emphasized that continued cooperation between security agencies and residents is crucial to eradicating the widespread menace of chang’aa and other homemade alcoholic beverages.
The Bomet arrests come shortly after a similar operation in Kisii County, where police destroyed more than 400 litres of Kangara concealed inside a sugarcane plantation in Nyamanani Village, Eburi Sub-location. During that raid, the main suspect behind the illegal production managed to escape, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt to ensure his arrest.
Security officials have vowed to maintain the momentum of such operations across the country, stressing that the production and sale of illicit alcohol not only violate the law but also expose consumers to life-threatening health complications. They urged citizens to report suspicious activities and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to create safer communities.
The ongoing nationwide crackdown highlights the government’s determination to safeguard public health, enhance security, and uphold law and order by curbing the spread of unregulated alcoholic drinks.
