Police in Busia have arrested a suspect after intercepting a bus transporting a large quantity of bhang valued at approximately KSh 300,000. The operation took place at the Suo roadblock along the Busia-Kisumu Highway, where officers acted on a tip-off regarding the illegal consignment.
Upon inspecting the bus, authorities discovered 10 bales of Cannabis sativa weighing around 10 kilograms. The individual linked to the consignment was immediately taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in court. Law enforcement praised the swift and coordinated efforts of the officers involved, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking across the country.
The police urged the public to continue providing timely information to support operations against illicit activities. They highlighted that community cooperation remains a critical component in curbing the circulation of illegal narcotics.
In a separate operation in Nairobi, authorities arrested a man suspected of being involved in a major bhang operation in the Umoja 1 Market area of Buruburu Sub-County. Officers reportedly seized around 20 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis, which included 3,000 prepared rolls and 33 packages of the substance. The suspect had been under surveillance prior to the raid and is now in police custody awaiting formal charges.
Both incidents underscore the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in controlling the illegal drug trade in the country. They also reflect the growing efforts by the police to intercept high-value consignments before they reach major urban centers.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to reducing the availability of narcotics and dismantling organized drug networks. These operations also demonstrate the critical role that intelligence-led policing plays in detecting and preventing criminal activities before they escalate.
Authorities continue to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police stations. Public participation in such operations significantly enhances the effectiveness of law enforcement and strengthens the fight against drug-related crimes.
With these arrests and seizures, police hope to send a clear message to those involved in the distribution of illegal drugs that such activities will not be tolerated, and strict legal action will follow.
