Authorities have launched investigations into the mysterious death of a taxi driver, Samuel Mwangi, whose body was discovered bearing severe injuries. Machakos County Criminal Investigations Officer Benedict Kigen confirmed that Mwangi, a resident of Eldama Ravine, suffered fatal head and body wounds. Police believe the crime may have occurred in Naivasha, where the late Mwangi was last seen.
Mwangi’s wife reported him missing after losing contact with him. She told police that her husband had received a call from an individual requesting transport for a sick family member to a hospital. Following the call, he disappeared, prompting the family to file a missing person report at Naivasha Police Station. Investigators are now pursuing leads from Naivasha to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
In a separate incident in Kakamega, tragedy struck when a minibus transporting ethanol overturned and caught fire. The driver died on the spot, while three others, including a boda boda rider, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that the minibus’ tires burst, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle rolled several times and burst into flames.
Meanwhile, in the coastal town of Watamu, a family is demanding justice after their 16-year-old son was allegedly assaulted by police officers at Kizingo Police Station in Malindi sub-county. The Form Three student was reportedly arrested following a disagreement during a matatu ride. According to his family, the officers beat the boy with a wooden bar, leaving him with serious injuries on his thighs.
The incidents have raised fresh concerns over public safety, road transport regulation, and police conduct across the country. While investigations are ongoing, the public continues to call for accountability and swift action from law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for victims and their families. Authorities are urging witnesses in all cases to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigations.
