Police across various counties in Kenya have launched investigations into a series of disturbing incidents, including a suspected murder in Voi, an electrocution in Turkana, a mysterious death in Bungoma, and a train looting in Nakuru.
In Voi, Taita Taveta County, a decomposed body of a man was discovered on June 17 under a bridge along the Meter Gauge Railway. The body had visible neck injuries and one partially severed foot, raising questions about whether the man was struck by a train or dumped at the scene. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected murder and have taken the body to the mortuary for identification and autopsy.
Meanwhile, in Turkana County, tragedy struck in Kanamkemer village when a 25-year-old woman, Irene Ewoton, was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire. She had stepped outside for a short call when she accidentally touched an electrified fence. Ewoton was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
In Bungoma County, police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man identified as Nick Wasubile. He had been drinking with friends in a local bar in Sikusi village, Chwele, and asked to rest inside the premises on the night of the incident. Bar staff found him unresponsive the following morning. He was taken to hospital but was declared dead. Police have questioned bar attendants and are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Separately, in Nakuru County, a group of looters took advantage of a derailed train carrying 16 wagons of wheat. The train had stopped in the Sabatia-Maji Mazuri area on June 19 when looters emerged from a nearby forest, broke into a wagon, and stole an unknown quantity of wheat. Police responded swiftly to secure the scene, and the train was later moved to its intended destination. Investigations are ongoing.
These incidents have sparked concern over public safety and the need for enhanced security and infrastructure monitoring across the country.
