Police in Kilifi have arrested a person of interest who was found in possession of 11 sachets of a substance suspected to be heroin. The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public regarding suspicious drug-related activities in the Kibaoni area of Kilifi North Sub-County.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers from Kilifi Police Station launched an operation and conducted an ambush in the targeted area. During the search, they recovered a nylon packet containing eleven sachets believed to contain heroin, along with Ksh800, which is suspected to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.
The individual apprehended is currently being held at Kilifi Police Station as authorities continue investigations. The suspect is awaiting processing and will be arraigned in court. The recovered evidence has been secured as part of the ongoing investigation to establish the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in drug trafficking.
Authorities have lauded the public for their cooperation and vigilance in helping fight the spread of drugs and other criminal activities. The recent developments point to the vital role community members play in supporting law enforcement agencies in identifying and reporting illegal behavior in their neighborhoods.
This arrest comes just a week after a separate major anti-drug operation was carried out in Siaya County. In that instance, officers conducted a raid in Nyang’oma Sub-Location, Bondo, resulting in the arrest of another person of interest and the recovery of a significant cache of narcotics and contraband goods.
During the Siaya operation, police uncovered 270 rolls of bhang (cannabis), 50 kilograms of uncustomed Ugandan Bugiri brown sugar, and 78 packets of export cigarettes. These seizures are believed to be part of a wider network involving cross-border smuggling and the sale of illegal goods. The proximity of Nyang’oma to the Busia border has raised suspicions about the presence of organised crime networks facilitating the flow of narcotics and other illicit items.
The suspect in the Siaya case was also placed in custody, pending further investigation and formal charges. Authorities continue to emphasize their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and related criminal enterprises, with operations expected to intensify in regions known for drug and contraband trade.
The recent arrests signal a broader effort by law enforcement to disrupt the supply and distribution chains of illegal drugs and smuggled goods across Kenyan counties.
