Police have apprehended a person of interest believed to be behind a series of robberies in Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa. The suspect was arrested on July 4, 2025, during a successful operation led by officers from Vijiweni Police Station. Acting on a tip-off from concerned members of the public, law enforcement officers tracked the individual to his hideout in the Maweche area and took him into custody.
According to police, the suspect is a repeat offender and is currently out on bail for previous robbery-related charges that are still pending before the courts. He is now back in custody as police process his case in preparation for arraignment.
Authorities commended the public for their role in facilitating the arrest, noting the importance of citizen cooperation in enhancing community safety. They urged the public to continue working closely with law enforcement to ensure timely reporting of suspicious activities.
The arrest in Mombasa came shortly after another significant breakthrough in a separate robbery case that occurred in the Parklands area of Nairobi. A businessman had been robbed of nearly one million shillings shortly after withdrawing money from a bank on June 28, 2025.
Following investigations and a detailed review of CCTV footage, detectives traced a suspect involved in the Parklands robbery to a hideout in Eldoret Town. The individual was arrested on July 3, 2025, and transported to Nairobi for further questioning and processing.
During the arrest, police recovered key items believed to have been used in the heist, including a reflector jacket, a police headdress with a white cover, and a vehicle suspected to have been involved. Investigators discovered that the vehicle had been fitted with an extra number plate, presumably to hinder identification and avoid detection.
CCTV evidence showed the car trailing the victim’s vehicle from the bank to a junction on First Parklands Avenue. At the junction, the suspects blocked the victim’s car, forcibly took the keys, and stole the cash. Witnesses reported that one of the attackers was armed and used the weapon to threaten the victim before making off with the money.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the Parklands robbery are ongoing. While one suspect is in custody, efforts are being intensified to track down additional suspects and recover the stolen funds. The firearm reportedly used during the incident has not yet been found.
The two arrests highlight an increasing effort by law enforcement to crack down on criminal networks and bring offenders to justice. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and urged anyone with useful information to come forward.
