Police have arrested two individuals and seized a total of 222 rolls of bhang in a major drug bust in Malaba Town, Busia County. The operation, conducted by officers based at Malaba Police Station in Teso North Sub-County, is part of a wider crackdown on narcotic substances in the region.
During the operation, one suspect was apprehended with 201 rolls of bhang, a quantity of dried green plant suspected to be cannabis sativa weighing approximately 500 grams, and two packets of brown Rizla rolling papers. These papers are commonly associated with the consumption of illicit substances.
The second suspect was found in possession of 21 rolls of bhang, bringing the total number of seized items to 222. Both individuals are currently in custody at Malaba Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court.
The police acknowledged the critical role played by the public, crediting local residents for providing actionable intelligence that led to the arrests. Authorities reiterated their commitment to continued operations targeting the supply and distribution of illegal drugs within Busia County and beyond.
This operation is the latest in a series of enforcement activities aimed at curbing drug trafficking and consumption across the country. Earlier in the same week, a similar raid took place in Nairobi along Jogoo Road. In that incident, law enforcement officers arrested one suspect and confiscated 200 kilograms of cannabis and 100 litres of chang’aa.
The earlier operation was executed by the Nairobi Regional Operations Team and was also part of the nationwide campaign to eliminate narcotic drugs and illicit brews. In both cases, suspects were taken into custody and the recovered substances secured as evidence.
These ongoing efforts reflect an intensified national approach to tackling the growing concern of drug abuse and illegal substance distribution. Authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities to the relevant agencies.
The police have reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining public safety and safeguarding communities against the harmful impact of narcotic drugs.
