A police officer was brutally murdered and found dead on a roadside in Rarieda, Siaya County. Constable Christone Maundu of Aram police station was discovered with deep cut wounds on his head near Rarieda Secondary School. The incident occurred on July 17, after his motorcycle ran out of fuel as he was returning to Aram shopping centre.
According to reports, Maundu had earlier escorted two of his colleagues before heading back alone on his motorcycle. When the motorcycle ran out of fuel, he called his colleagues to seek help. However, by the time they arrived at the scene, they found Maundu lying motionless in a pool of blood. The motorcycle was found next to his body.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, but police have launched investigations into the matter. No arrests have been made so far. Authorities suspect that Maundu may have tried to resist a robbery attempt, which led to the fatal stabbing. There is also a possibility that he was trailed and killed for reasons yet to be established.
Senior police officers visited the scene and confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The body was taken to the mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack, and efforts to track them down continue.
In a separate incident in Kipini, Tana River County, two sisters were arrested after they were accused of strangling their sick brother to death inside their home. Following the murder, the sisters reportedly slept beside the body with the intention of traveling with it. Locals became aware of the situation and confronted the women, threatening to lynch them. However, police intervened and took the sisters into custody.
The police have opened investigations into this case as well, and the deceased’s body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. The motive behind the killing remains under investigation.
Both cases highlight troubling acts of violence that have shocked the respective communities. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice. The police have assured that they will pursue all leads and ensure that those responsible for these crimes face the full force of the law.
