A police officer is recuperating in hospital after suffering serious stab wounds believed to have been inflicted by his partner during a violent domestic dispute at their home in Chaani, Changamwe, Mombasa County.
The officer, who is currently attached to the Mombasa High Court, was reportedly drinking with his partner inside their residence on the night of the incident. What began as a night of socializing allegedly escalated into a violent altercation, the cause of which has yet to be fully determined.
Local residents reported hearing loud commotion coming from the couple’s house late at night. Concerned for their safety, neighbors forced their way into the house, only to find the officer bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds. He was also found to be heavily intoxicated at the time. His partner was nowhere to be seen.
The neighbors quickly acted, rushing the injured officer to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a second hospital located in the Mikindani–Jomvu area for specialized medical care. Hospital staff have since confirmed that the officer is receiving treatment and remains in a stable condition, although he will require continued monitoring.
Initial police findings indicate that both the officer and the woman had consumed significant amounts of alcohol prior to the incident. While the details of what triggered the confrontation are still unclear, investigators are treating the case as a serious domestic assault.
The woman, who fled the scene shortly after the incident, is now considered a suspect in the stabbing. Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt to locate her. Authorities believe she may still be within the Mombasa region, and appeals have been made to the public to report any sightings or information that could lead to her arrest.
The incident has sparked concern among residents in Chaani and the wider Mombasa area, particularly over the dangers posed by domestic violence and alcohol abuse. Local leaders and community-based organizations have once again called for increased awareness and support systems to help prevent such incidents from escalating to violence.
Domestic violence remains a pressing issue in many Kenyan communities, with cases often going unreported until they result in serious injury or death. This incident has brought renewed attention to the urgent need for intervention strategies that address the root causes of domestic conflict, particularly when exacerbated by substance abuse.
The police have assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing and that justice will be served. They have also urged couples facing challenges in their relationships to seek help from professional counselors, community elders, or religious leaders, rather than allowing disputes to spiral into violence.
As the search for the suspect continues, the officer’s recovery remains the immediate focus, with colleagues and friends expressing their support and hoping for his full recovery. The case is expected to proceed to formal legal channels once the suspect is apprehended and interrogated.
