Police officers in Isiolo County have successfully recovered 21 stolen sheep and goats following a well-coordinated security operation in the Burat area. The operation, which involved officers from Kulamawe Police Station and members of the National Police Reservists, was launched after reports of livestock theft were received from local residents.
According to the police, the joint team conducted a detailed patrol covering areas such as LMD, KMC, Mlango and Leparua, approximately 25 kilometres west of the station. Through the assistance of local elders and residents, the officers were able to trace the stolen livestock and recover them safely. The animals were later returned to their rightful owners.
The police highlighted the importance of community cooperation in combating livestock theft, noting that the success of the operation was largely due to the valuable information shared by residents. Elders played a key role in guiding the officers to the locations where the animals had been hidden, leading to a swift and peaceful recovery process.
Authorities commended both the officers and members of the public who participated in the operation, emphasizing that such collaboration strengthens trust between law enforcement agencies and the community. The police also assured residents that they remain committed to protecting lives, property, and livelihoods in the region.
Security patrols across Isiolo have been intensified to deter future incidents and to track down those responsible for the theft. Police have vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and face justice. In addition, residents have been encouraged to report any suspicious activities through the National Police Service toll-free hotlines 999, 911, and 112, or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
The livestock recovery comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb cattle rustling and livestock theft in northern Kenya. Such coordinated actions demonstrate the growing effectiveness of community policing initiatives, which continue to enhance peace and stability in Isiolo and neighbouring counties.
Through continued collaboration between security personnel and local communities, authorities hope to eradicate livestock theft and strengthen public safety across the region.
