Police in Murang’a County have recovered several stolen motorcycles and spare parts following a well-coordinated security operation in the Ithanga and Kakuzi areas. The successful raid marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on rising motorcycle theft cases that have affected boda boda operators and local residents.
The operation, which took place on October 10, 2025, was led by officers from Ithanga Police Station in collaboration with their counterparts at the Rubiru Police Post. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of a key suspect believed to be at the center of the theft syndicate that has been targeting motorcycles in the region.
Authorities reported that the arrest came after days of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and field investigations. Following interrogation, the suspect led officers to a location where a dismantled motorcycle and several parts were found hidden. The recovered items included complete motorcycle frames, engines, and accessories believed to have been stolen from different areas within Murang’a and neighboring counties.
A subsequent search at the suspect’s residence led to the discovery of additional stolen goods, including motorcycle components, mechanical tools, and assorted electronics. The police have since confiscated all items for forensic verification and to trace their rightful owners.
Law enforcement officials praised the officers involved for their persistence and teamwork, noting that such efforts are crucial in curbing the growing trend of motorcycle theft. They emphasized that the operation demonstrates the National Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding public property and ensuring community safety.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and assist security agencies by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities that could be linked to motorcycle theft or other forms of crime. The police encouraged the public to make use of toll-free hotlines or provide anonymous tips to help curb criminal networks operating in the area.
The arrested suspect remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Police have vowed to intensify similar operations across Murang’a County to dismantle theft rings and restore confidence among local commuters and boda boda riders.
Authorities reiterated that motorcycle theft is a serious criminal offense and warned that anyone found engaging in the trade will face severe legal consequences. The operation serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the community in maintaining peace and security.
