Police officers have recovered a significant haul of stolen electronics following successful operations in Kisumu and Nairobi counties, underscoring intensified efforts to dismantle mobile phone theft networks across the country.
In Kisumu County, officers acting on credible intelligence raided a residence in Kolenyo Village, Seme Sub-County. The search led to the arrest of a male suspect found in possession of 24 assorted mobile phones, two laptops a black Lenovo and a grey HP and an Orimo power bank. The items are all suspected to have been stolen. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court.
This operation was carried out by officers from Kombewa Police Station and is part of broader initiatives aimed at cracking down on criminal enterprises dealing in stolen electronic devices.
Meanwhile, a related operation was carried out in Nairobi, where police officers from Central Police Station arrested three individuals believed to be part of a phone theft syndicate operating in the city’s Central Business District.
The arrest followed intelligence reports pointing to tampering with IMEI numbers of suspected stolen mobile phones. During the operation, one suspect reportedly led investigators to another location, resulting in the arrest of two more suspects.
A search of the premises uncovered a large cache of electronics, including 36 Samsung phones, 23 Vivo phones, six M-Kopa Samsung phones, two M-Kopa Nokia phones, two Nokia phones, one LG, one Tecno, one HMD, one Motorola phone, and two Vivo motherboards — many missing back covers. Additionally, police recovered computer equipment including two Dell CPUs, two HP Elite CPUs, and one desktop computer.
All suspects from both Kisumu and Nairobi operations are in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are also working to trace the origins of the recovered items and return them to their rightful owners.
These back-to-back arrests and seizures reflect a determined effort by law enforcement to curb rising cases of mobile phone theft, dismantle criminal networks, and ensure safer communities.
