Police in Matungu, Kakamega County, have arrested two suspects in possession of 15 kilograms of bhang following a successful operation on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), the arrest came after officers received a tip-off from the public regarding suspicious activity involving narcotics. Acting swiftly, officers from Matungu Police Station intercepted a public service vehicle at Matungu Trading Centre, where they found the two men carrying the illegal substance.
“Following a tip-off from the public, officers intercepted a public service vehicle at Matungu Trading Centre. Two male suspects were found to have approximately 15 kilograms of cannabis,” read part of the statement shared by NPS on X (formerly Twitter).
The suspects were immediately taken into custody, and the seized drugs were secured as evidence. Police said the individuals would be arraigned in court to face drug-related charges.
The NPS commended the public for their vigilance, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining law and order. “The National Police Service commends the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and commitment to keeping our communities safe. We remain steadfast in our mission to serve and protect,” the statement added.
This latest seizure follows a series of anti-narcotics operations across the country. Just a day earlier, police in Mandera County recovered 700 rolls of cannabis and three kilograms of unprocessed bhang during a patrol in the Shantoley area. In another October 2025 incident, officers in Kisumu County recovered 20 kilograms of bhang concealed in a lorry ferrying vegetables to Nairobi.
Authorities continue to urge citizens to report any suspicious activities, reaffirming that public cooperation remains key in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.
