In a major crackdown on illegal alcohol production, police in Murang’a County have arrested five individuals and seized 20 litres of chang’aa. The operation, which took place in Kahaini Village, was led by officers from Ng’araria Police Station in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).
The operation targeted a quarry site near River Thika, after intelligence reports indicated ongoing illicit brewing activities. The police moved swiftly, arresting the suspects as they were in the process of preparing and selling the illegal liquor. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a substantial amount of chang’aa at the scene, which was confiscated and stored as evidence.
This operation is part of an ongoing effort by the National Police Service (NPS) to combat the widespread issue of illicit alcohol brewing in the region, a problem that has long plagued local communities. Residents of Kahaini Village have repeatedly raised concerns about the impact of illegal alcohol on young people and the overall safety of the community.
The five arrested individuals are currently held at Ng’araria Police Station, where they are being processed for court. The NPS has made it clear that more crackdowns will continue in Murang’a County and other neighbouring areas to curb the production and sale of illicit alcohol.
In a statement, the NPS reiterated its commitment to tackling the menace of illegal alcohol and narcotics, warning that anyone involved in these activities would face the full force of the law. The authorities are also encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities related to the brewing or sale of illicit liquor, urging local communities to be vigilant and play an active role in safeguarding their neighborhoods.
The successful operation underscores the police’s resolve in making communities safer by eliminating illegal alcohol activities that endanger public health and contribute to criminal behavior.
