Police in Tigoni have intercepted a significant consignment of bhang during a well-planned intelligence-led operation, leading to the arrest of a key suspect.
The operation took place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in the Karambaini Tea Zone within Kiambaa Sub-County. Officers, acting on a tip-off, apprehended the suspect who was allegedly transporting the illegal substance disguised as a khat delivery. The suspect was riding a TVS Star motorcycle when he was stopped by police.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 800 rolls of cannabis sativa concealed inside a woven bag. In addition, the suspect was found in possession of Ksh3,795, believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Authorities say the suspect had attempted to blend in with legal khat transporters to avoid raising suspicion, but the strategic surveillance and intelligence gathering by the officers thwarted the plan.
The suspect and the seized exhibits are currently in police custody, pending arraignment in court. Investigators are also looking into possible links between the suspect and wider narcotics distribution networks in the region.
Police have reaffirmed their determination to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking syndicates, which they say pose a serious threat to public health and national security. This operation is part of an ongoing crackdown targeting narcotics, illicit brews, and second-generation alcoholic drinks, which continue to affect communities across the country.
Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation is essential in the fight against illegal substances. Residents have been encouraged to use available hotlines and police stations to share information that could help in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in such criminal activities.
Law enforcement agencies warn that narcotics trade not only fuels addiction and crime but also undermines community safety and economic stability. By cutting off supply routes and arresting those involved, they aim to protect vulnerable groups, especially the youth, from falling prey to drug abuse.
The Tigoni bhang seizure is seen as a significant step in the wider effort to curb drug trafficking in Kiambu County and beyond. Police have vowed to intensify similar operations and to bring all offenders to justice.
