Police officers have arrested two suspects in Isebania after intercepting a motorcycle carrying bhang valued at Ksh165,000. The operation followed an intelligence tip-off from a member of the public, prompting officers to act swiftly.
The arrest occurred in Motemorabu, Isebania, where officers flagged down a motorcycle with a rider and a pillion passenger. Upon searching a black bag in their possession, police found 67 large rolls of cannabis sativa weighing 5.5 kilograms. The two suspects were taken into custody, with the drugs and motorcycle secured as exhibits. They were initially held at Motemorabu Police Post before being transferred to Isebania Police Station for processing and arraignment.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking and urged the public to continue providing information to aid in ongoing crackdowns.
This incident in Isebania occurred barely a day after another major drug bust in Kakamega County. In that operation, officers recovered bhang worth nearly Ksh5 million following a search along the Kakamega-Mumias Road. The recovery was made on Tuesday when police on patrol discovered an abandoned black Toyota Fielder.
Inside the vehicle, officers found seven large bags filled with cannabis sativa weighing a total of 159.15 kilograms. The consignment’s estimated street value was Ksh4,774,500. The vehicle was towed to Kakamega Police Station, where it remains as investigations continue to establish the identity of its owner and those responsible for transporting the drugs.
Law enforcement agencies have emphasized that such seizures highlight the ongoing threat posed by drug trafficking networks operating in the region. They noted that these substances not only endanger public health but also contribute to increased criminal activity.
The back-to-back operations in Isebania and Kakamega reflect a heightened police effort to dismantle the supply chain of narcotics. Both incidents underline the importance of community cooperation in providing intelligence that can lead to arrests and seizures. Police have encouraged continued vigilance from citizens, stressing that every tip-off could be instrumental in preventing illegal drugs from reaching communities.
With the growing sophistication of drug trafficking methods, security agencies are expected to intensify patrols, road checks, and targeted intelligence-led operations to curb the vice. The recent successes serve as a warning to traffickers that law enforcement remains on high alert and determined to bring offenders to justice.
