Police have recovered bhang valued at nearly Ksh5 million in Kakamega County following a targeted patrol aimed at disrupting drug trafficking activities in the area.
The operation, conducted along the Kakamega-Mumias Road on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, led to the discovery of 159.15 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside an abandoned black Toyota Fielder. Upon inspection, officers found seven large bags filled with bhang, with an estimated street value of Ksh4,774,500.
The vehicle was towed to Kakamega Police Station, where it is being held as investigations continue to establish both the identity of its owner and the network behind the consignment. Police are treating the matter as part of a broader campaign to dismantle organised drug trafficking rings in the region.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity linked to narcotics or other organised crime. They emphasised that community cooperation is crucial in addressing the drug menace and ensuring public safety.
In a related crackdown, police in Tigoni, Kiambu County, arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Karambaini Tea Zone, Kiambaa Sub-County, on the same day. Acting on intelligence, officers apprehended the suspect, who was in possession of at least 800 rolls of cannabis.
The suspect had been using a TVS Star motorcycle to transport the drugs, disguising himself as a khat transporter to avoid detection. His arrest marks a significant step in disrupting the supply of illicit drugs in the area.
Both incidents highlight the coordinated efforts by law enforcement to curb the spread of illegal narcotics across the country. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the drugs, identify the individuals involved, and bring them to justice.
The recent operations reflect an intensified national campaign against drug trafficking, with authorities committed to dismantling distribution networks and safeguarding communities from the negative impact of narcotics.
Police have reiterated that drug trafficking not only fuels crime but also undermines the social and economic wellbeing of citizens. The successful seizures in Kakamega and Tigoni serve as a warning to traffickers that law enforcement remains vigilant and ready to act decisively against any attempts to peddle illegal substances.
