Police in Kilifi County have made a significant drug bust after seizing an SUV loaded with marijuana in the Gede area of Malindi. On Wednesday, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) flagged down a silver Toyota Vanguard, registration KCK 810C, for an inspection. However, the driver of the vehicle ignored the officers’ request to stop and attempted to flee the scene.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, with police chasing the suspect for several hours. The chase ultimately ended when the SUV was found abandoned in the Mayungu area. Upon inspection, investigators discovered that the vehicle’s number plates had been hastily swapped from KCK 810C to KCJ 752Z in an attempt to evade detection. Despite the vehicle being found, the driver managed to escape and remains on the run.
Inside the SUV, law enforcement officers uncovered a shocking stash of marijuana. The vehicle was packed to the brim with 12 bulging sacks filled with bhang, a drug trafficking consignment worth millions of shillings. This large quantity of narcotics was likely intended for distribution on the streets of Malindi and beyond.
The SUV and the drugs were promptly taken to Malindi Police Station for further examination and processing. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are actively searching for the driver involved in the illegal transportation of the cannabis.
This drug bust highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region and the significant efforts law enforcement agencies are putting into curbing the illegal trade. The DCI is determined to locate and apprehend the suspect, who is believed to be a key player in the illicit drug trade within Kilifi County.
As the investigation continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to assist in tackling drug-related crimes in their communities.
