A tragic confrontation between two police officers over a woman turned deadly in Kitengela Town, Kajiado County, on Thursday night. One officer lost his life after being thrown off the fourth floor of an apartment, allegedly by a fellow policeman during a heated altercation sparked by a love triangle.
The deceased, a police constable attached to Kitengela police station, had reportedly travelled by bodaboda to visit a woman believed to be his girlfriend. The residence, located about three kilometres from Kitengela town, was where the two spent a few hours together before an unannounced visitor arrived.
The visitor turned out to be a police sergeant from the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit based at the Export Processing Zone in Athi River. He was also romantically involved with the same woman. The situation quickly escalated when the sergeant entered the apartment uninvited, leading to a fierce altercation between the two armed officers.
Efforts by the woman to calm the situation proved futile as the confrontation intensified. The scuffle moved from the apartment’s living area to the balcony, where the constable was allegedly pushed off, falling several floors down to the building’s parking lot.
The impact killed him instantly. His body was discovered minutes later lying in a pool of blood, with severe injuries to the head. Neighbours reported hearing screams from the woman as the incident unfolded, prompting them to alert the authorities.
Police arrived at the scene and took both the woman and the sergeant into custody as investigations into the fatal incident commenced. Officers also confirmed that the deceased had instructed his boda rider to wait nearby, indicating he hadn’t planned on staying long.
Meanwhile, a separate grisly murder was reported in Mogambi village, Kisii County. A partially burnt body of a man was discovered along a roadside with his legs tied and severe injuries to his limbs and back. A blood-stained panga and open shoes were recovered next to the body. The victim remains unidentified, and the body has been taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Both incidents have left local communities in shock and raised concerns over escalating violent confrontations and unresolved personal disputes among law enforcement officers.
