Authorities have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man’s body on a cliff at Karue Hills in Embu County, amid suspicions of foul play. The incident, which occurred on May 27, is being treated as a possible murder after initial assessments suggested that the man may have either been pushed off the cliff or his body dumped at the site.
Locals who first spotted the body alerted the police. Upon arrival, officers managed to access the remote cliffside location, where they found the body in a state of decomposition. A deep cut was visible at the back of the head, indicating the man may have been slashed with a sharp object. Investigators believe this injury was likely inflicted before death, reinforcing suspicions of homicide.
The body was recovered and transported to the mortuary, where it awaits formal identification and a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The motive behind the killing remains unknown, and police have launched a murder probe to uncover the circumstances leading to the victim’s death.
Meanwhile, in separate incidents across the country, two individuals were lynched by mobs in cases of suspected theft.
In Kiengu, Kangeta in Meru County, a suspect was pursued by a group of motorcycle riders from Maua Town to Kiengu market. The man was accused of being involved in a spate of motorcycle thefts in the region. The enraged mob caught up with him and stoned him to death before police could intervene. His body was later taken to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy. Officers at the scene attempted to rescue the suspect but were overwhelmed by the crowd.
A second mob justice incident occurred along the Sirisia-Chesikaki road in Bungoma County, where a man identified as David Simiyu, aged 35, was killed. Simiyu was accused of stealing chickens, an allegation that triggered the wrath of local residents. A crowd confronted and lynched him before authorities arrived. His body was also moved to the mortuary as investigations continue.
Police have reiterated their stance against mob justice, warning the public against taking the law into their own hands. They emphasized that suspects should be handed over to the authorities for due legal processing. The rise in cases of mob lynching has raised concerns, prompting calls for increased public awareness and vigilance from law enforcement.
In another troubling event in Siaya County, a fisherman drowned during a violent confrontation over fishing grounds in Lake Victoria. The incident occurred near Mageta Island and Nambo, within Kenyan territorial waters. Two groups of fishermen reportedly clashed in a dispute over fishing territory. During the altercation, one of the fishermen went missing and was later confirmed to have drowned.
Efforts were underway to retrieve the body as of Wednesday evening. Witnesses stated that the victim was in a boat with fellow fishermen when they were attacked by another group. Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the attackers, and it remains unclear whether they were locals or foreign nationals. Such clashes are not uncommon in the lake region, and security patrols have since been intensified in the area to curb the rising tensions and prevent further violence.
Police continue to investigate all incidents to bring those responsible to justice and restore calm in the affected regions.
