Police in Machakos County have launched investigations after a daring robbery at the Redeemed Gospel Church (Dorcas City International) in Nguluni, Matungulu West, where a sound system valued at Ksh500,000 was stolen.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 am on Sunday, September 21, 2025. According to church leaders, this is the second time robbers have targeted the same place of worship, raising serious concerns about insecurity in the area.
The robbers are said to have broken into the church compound unnoticed and made away with the expensive sound system that was used for services and events. Members of the congregation woke up to the shocking news, describing the theft as a major setback for the church, which relies heavily on the equipment for worship and outreach activities.
Clergy members expressed frustration over the repeated break-ins, urging law enforcement officers to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice. They noted that churches, which are supposed to be safe sanctuaries, are increasingly being targeted by criminals.
The incident has sparked wider concerns in the Nguluni community, where residents have reported increased cases of burglary at homes, businesses, and now places of worship. Community leaders have called on security agencies to enhance patrols and surveillance in order to curb the growing wave of theft.
The theft has not only affected the church financially but also spiritually, as the stolen sound system played a key role in worship services. Members now fear that without proper security measures, such incidents may continue to discourage faithful worshippers and strain church resources.
Local residents have urged authorities to prioritize the protection of public institutions, especially churches, schools, and business premises, which have been frequent targets. They also encouraged the community to work closely with police by reporting suspicious activities to prevent further losses.
This latest robbery adds to a series of recent incidents in Machakos County, where criminal gangs appear to be exploiting weak security measures. The public now awaits the outcome of the police investigations, hoping that swift action will lead to the arrest of the culprits and recovery of the stolen equipment.
