Police in Kiambu County have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected to be behind a series of violent robberies, recovering a firearm believed to have been used in recent crimes.
The arrest took place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, during a mid-morning intelligence-led operation in Mifereji, Ruaka. Officers acted swiftly after receiving credible information linking the suspect to a spate of violent robberies reported in Rweno and Kiambaa.
Following his capture, the suspect was escorted to his residence, where a Retay Falcon pistol was recovered. The firearm, which was not loaded, had been concealed inside a chicken shed within the compound. The weapon has since been secured and will undergo ballistic tests to determine whether it was used in previous criminal activities.
Authorities described the operation as a significant step in dismantling organized criminal groups that have been terrorizing residents in the county. The arrest also comes at a time when communities in Ruaka and Kiambaa have raised alarm over an increase in robberies, some involving armed assailants.
Investigators are now working to establish whether the suspect had accomplices and if he is linked to other cases reported in the region. Security agencies indicated that the arrest is part of a wider crackdown on violent offenders in Kiambu.
According to officers involved in the operation, crucial leads are being pursued, and more arrests are expected as efforts to break down the criminal networks intensify. They assured the public that security patrols and surveillance have been stepped up, especially in areas that have recently recorded high levels of crime.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities. Authorities emphasized that community partnership remains central to curbing rising crime trends, pointing out that security is a shared responsibility.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. Once inquiries are completed, he will be presented in court to face charges related to the robberies and unlawful possession of a firearm.
This latest arrest underscores the ongoing determination by security agencies to combat armed crime and safeguard communities in Kiambu and beyond. By targeting individuals linked to violent offenses, the authorities aim to restore calm and reinforce public confidence in law enforcement.
