Detectives in Trans Nzoia County are investigating the gruesome murder of a seven-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a maize plantation in Saboti on the evening of August 27. The child, who had gone missing from her home in Sokomoko village, was found lifeless just a short distance away. Police suspect she was defiled before being killed, although the motive behind the crime is yet to be established.
The shocking incident sparked anger and outrage among residents, who stormed Saboti police station demanding justice. The mob attempted to set the station ablaze, pelting it with stones and sticks, leaving property destroyed and several windows shattered. In a dramatic confrontation, police officers responded by firing more than 100 live bullets, 200 blanks, and several tear gas canisters to disperse the angry crowd. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with tension running high late into the night.
One police officer sustained head injuries after being struck by a stone and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Reinforcements had to be sent in to protect the station and restore calm, as clashes between residents and law enforcement escalated. Despite the tension, police eventually managed to secure the area and moved the girl’s body to the mortuary for postmortem examination. Senior officers have since visited the community, assuring locals that justice will be served.
The murder adds to a worrying trend of rising homicide cases across the country. In Kwale County, a 19-year-old herdsman identified as Adan Bodha Dido was found murdered in Busho area on August 27. His body, discovered in a thicket, bore a deep throat cut. Police have yet to determine the motive or identify suspects.
Similarly, in Rongai, Nakuru County, a 46-year-old man named Simon Mukuni was found dead in his house. Reports indicate he had been brought home by his cousin, who abandoned him on the sofa where his body was later discovered. Detectives have launched investigations into the incident, and his remains were transferred to the mortuary for further examination.
These incidents highlight the alarming rise in violent crimes, with calls growing louder for authorities to fast-track investigations, bring perpetrators to justice, and enhance community security measures nationwide.
