A wave of shock and outrage has gripped Nyanginja and Bondo Junction following the brutal murder of Christine Achieng, a local egg vendor, whose lifeless body was discovered in a bush in Nyandiwa sublocation on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
The victim was found lying in a pool of blood, her throat slit, and her body partially unclothed. A shepherd who stumbled upon the body raised an alarm, drawing the attention of local residents.
“We received distress calls from a shepherd. Upon arrival, we found the woman had been killed,” said John Onyango, a local resident.
Crime scene investigators have cordoned off the area with yellow tape reading ‘Crime Scene – Do Not Enter.’ Nyandiwa Assistant Chief Joseph Aloo confirmed that investigations are ongoing but no arrests have been made so far. He urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in identifying the suspect.
Christine Achieng had recently shifted from selling eggs to running a bar in Usenge, Bondo sub-county. Fellow vendor Jesinter Achieng expressed shock over her death. “Femicide cases in Siaya are alarmingly common, yet justice often comes too late. We demand swift and transparent investigations. Justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.
The body of the deceased has been moved to Siaya County Referral Mortuary as police continue investigations.
This tragic incident comes just three days after a five-year-old girl was found murdered near Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University campus in Siaya town, highlighting a worrying trend of violent crimes in the region.
Elsewhere, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest of a 34-year-old man in connection with the murder of Jane Atila, a University of Nairobi student whose body was discovered in a forest in Kiambu County after going missing two weeks prior.
Authorities continue to call on members of the public to provide any information that could help solve these heinous crimes, emphasizing that community cooperation is key to preventing further tragedies.
