Siaya County police officers have arrested two men after seizing three sacks of cannabis sativa cleverly disguised as brooms in Ahono Village, Marenyo Sub-Location.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS) on Monday, November 17, 2025, the operation was carried out by officers from Sinanga Police Post in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) following credible intelligence.
During the raid on a local homestead, the officers recovered three large sacks, each containing 80 brooms, which were found to be stuffed with cannabis. The two suspects, aged 28 and 25, were arrested on the spot and taken to Yala Police Station, where they are currently in custody awaiting court processing.
“The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits, and the suspects are set to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of cannabis sativa,” NPS said.
The police emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the county. “Police officers from Sinanga Police Post have intensified their fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse following this successful operation,” NPS noted.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting communities by enforcing laws against dangerous drugs and dismantling criminal networks involved in their distribution. The NPS further urged the public to assist in these efforts by reporting any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
“Operations targeting narcotics will continue across the county. Members of the public are urged to support these ongoing efforts by reporting any suspicious activities,” the police added.
This latest arrest highlights the ingenuity used by traffickers to transport drugs and the vigilance of law enforcement officers in Siaya County. The National Police Service continues to maintain a strong stance against narcotics to safeguard local communities and prevent the circulation of illegal substances.
