Police in Kisii have arrested six individuals after a raid uncovered 79 brooms of cannabis sativa and rolling papers. The operation took place in Jokivilla, Nyamataro area, Kisii Township, where law enforcement officers stormed a suspected drug den. The multi-agency team was led by the Kisii County Police Commander, targeting illegal narcotics trade in the region.
During the operation, officers seized the large quantity of bhang along with Rizla rolling papers, indicating the stash was prepared for distribution. The main suspect, who is currently out on a Ksh5 million bond for similar charges, managed to evade capture and remains at large. Authorities have launched a manhunt to track down the fugitive.
This latest bust adds to a growing list of drug-related arrests in Kisii County in recent weeks. On August 2, two suspected traffickers were intercepted during a mobile patrol along the busy Kisii-Migori highway. Police recovered 30 kilograms of cannabis sativa from their vehicle. The two were taken into custody and were set to face charges in court.
Just a day earlier, on August 1, police in Murang’a County apprehended a well-known peddler in Gatanga Sub-County during an intelligence-led operation. The suspect was found carrying 63 rolls of bhang hidden inside his jacket at Kirwara Shopping Centre. He was detained pending arraignment.
The series of arrests underscores the heightened crackdown on the sale and trafficking of narcotics across various counties. Authorities have intensified intelligence gathering and surveillance, especially in regions known for high drug activity. Law enforcement agencies have warned that such operations will continue as part of broader efforts to combat the illegal drug trade, which has been linked to rising crime rates and social challenges in affected communities.
In Kisii, security teams have been working around the clock to dismantle drug networks that operate both within the county and across county borders. The latest raid in Nyamataro reflects a targeted approach to dismantling supply chains and bringing repeat offenders to justice.
Police are urging the public to cooperate by providing information on drug peddlers and trafficking activities. Residents have been reminded that cannabis remains a prohibited substance in Kenya, and those found in possession face severe legal consequences, including hefty fines and long prison sentences.
