Shock and grief have engulfed the family of former Uriri MP Haman Omamba after the body of his son, Michael Odhiambo Omamba, was found brutally murdered near his home in Migori Town. Michael, aged 30, was discovered early Wednesday morning lying by the roadside, just 20 meters from his house. He had suffered a deep stab wound to the right side of his chest.
Detectives investigating the case say Michael had been seen earlier that night at a local bar in the company of a mutual friend. Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing, but initial assessments suggest the murder was premeditated. Curiously, no personal belongings were taken from the deceased—his wallet and mobile phone remained intact in his pockets, ruling out robbery as a motive.
The chilling discovery has left the family seeking answers, particularly as they were already mourning the recent passing of their matriarch, Suslia Omamba. She was the first wife of the late MP and is scheduled to be buried on August 8. The double tragedy has intensified calls for justice from family members, including Michael’s brother, North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba, who urged authorities to swiftly identify and prosecute those responsible.
The police confirmed that the body was transferred to the mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue. No arrests had been made by Thursday morning.
In a separate but equally tragic incident in Nyamilu village, Suna, also in Migori County, another man died following a brutal attack at his home. Dominic Wasonga, also 30, succumbed to stab injuries inflicted on his head and left eye. He was found lying in a pool of blood and rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The motive behind this killing also remains unknown, and no suspects have been apprehended.
Both cases have raised concerns about rising insecurity in the region, as families and local leaders demand urgent action from law enforcement agencies to restore public safety and bring perpetrators to justice.
