A Kibera Law Court has ordered that Kithuka Kimunyi, the prime suspect in the State House arrow attack that claimed the life of a police officer, be detained for 14 days to allow further investigations. The court also directed that he receive medical treatment at Mbagathi Hospital before being remanded.
Kimunyi was arraigned on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, barely a day after allegedly attacking officers manning the State House gates, resulting in the death of Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka.
During the court session, prosecutors initially sought 21 days of detention, but the magistrate revised the period to two weeks after clarification. “Your honour, we request the suspect to be detained so that we can complete investigations in an open manner and determine the full extent of his crimes,” the prosecution told the court.
According to the investigation report, Kimunyi who hails from Makueni County allegedly left his home on Sunday evening before embarking on what authorities termed a “fatal mission.” Dressed in a manner described as “deranged,” he reportedly approached the State House gate and was ordered to leave by officers.
“When he approached the gate, he was asked to leave, and that is when he attacked the officers with arrows,” the prosecution stated. One of the arrows fatally struck Constable Ramadhan in the left side of his chest before the suspect was subdued by other GSU officers.
When presented in court, Kimunyi appeared visibly limping, suggesting he sustained injuries during his arrest. The court further noted that the suspect could not provide a clear account of his residence, raising concerns about his traceability if released.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a larger plot.
