Police in Nyakach Sub-county have arrested two suspects, including a 20-year-old Form Four student, over a series of robberies and break-ins that have rocked the region in recent weeks. Authorities say the suspects are believed to be part of a gang responsible for numerous thefts across Nyabondo, Ndare Ramula, and Dirubi areas of Nyakach.
The student, who is sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams at Ramula Odowa Secondary School, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation conducted within the school compound. Law enforcement officers said they had been trailing the suspect after receiving several reports of stolen property and break-ins in nearby institutions and homes.
Upon interrogation, the student allegedly confessed to taking part in several robbery incidents, including house break-ins, and named some of his accomplices. Acting on the information provided, police arrested another suspect, identified as Japheth Ndege, believed to be part of the same criminal group.
Subsequent police operations led to the recovery of multiple suspected stolen items, including laptops, tablets, and a toy pistol that was reportedly used to threaten victims during the robberies. The recovered property is believed to have been stolen from Kabete Primary School, Kabete AIC Church, and several business premises in Nyabondo that were recently broken into.
In addition, police found crude weapons such as a crowbar and a panga at the suspects’ hideouts, which are believed to have been used during the robberies. The confiscated items and the two suspects were taken to Ogoro Police Station, where they were booked pending further investigation.
Authorities have intensified efforts to track down other members of the gang who remain at large. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station as investigations continue into the growing robbery cases in Nyakach.
