A wave of sorrow has engulfed communities in Subukia and Kisii counties following the discovery of multiple deaths under disturbing circumstances, with police now investigating possible cases of suicide and murder.
In Subukia, Nakuru County, residents are reeling after a man identified as Dominic Ateka was found dead alongside his two sons, aged four and two, in a suspected murder-suicide. According to police, Ateka had travelled from Mombasa to Subukia, where his estranged wife and children resided in the Mihango Kware area. On Wednesday, May 28, he visited his wife’s home, picked up the children, and returned with them to his residence.
That was the last time the three were seen alive.
On Thursday, Ateka’s mother, concerned after not hearing from them, visited the house. Finding it locked from the inside and receiving no response to her knocks, she alerted neighbours. They broke into the house and were met with a horrific scene — the bodies of Ateka and his two sons hanging from the rafters, tied with ropes.
Police who arrived at the scene moved the bodies to the mortuary, where autopsies will be conducted to aid ongoing investigations.
In a separate incident in Ramasha, Kisii County, police are probing the murder of 53-year-old Eucabeth Kwamboka. Initially reported by her husband as a suicide, an autopsy later revealed that she was killed. Her husband has since been detained as investigations continue.
Still in Kisii, in the Kerina area, the body of 65-year-old Andrew Ondieki Onsanse was found in his home in a suspected murder. Locals told police he was last seen on May 25. His body bore deep cuts on the head and private parts, and signs of a struggle were evident — with bloodstains on the walls and furniture. His trousers were found pulled down, raising further questions.
All the bodies were taken to respective mortuaries for autopsy as investigations intensify. Police have vowed to pursue the truth behind these grim deaths, urging members of the public to report any information that may aid the cases.
