A significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking was achieved on Tuesday, July 1, as law enforcement officers apprehended a suspect found in possession of 5,660 rolls of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang. The arrest took place during a carefully coordinated and intelligence-led operation by officers of the National Police Service in Kamulu, located within Nairobi’s Ruai Sub-County.
The operation targeted drug traffickers believed to be operating in the area. During the raid, police successfully intercepted the suspect, who was allegedly in the process of distributing the narcotics. Following the arrest, the suspect was immediately taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment in court. The rolls of bhang seized during the raid are currently being held as evidence as investigations continue.
Authorities have issued a strong warning to members of the public against engaging in drug-related activities. They emphasized the ongoing efforts to dismantle narcotics networks across the country, reaffirming their resolve to ensure that communities are protected from the negative impacts of drug abuse and trafficking.
This latest arrest adds to a string of recent operations targeting the drug trade in various parts of Kenya. On June 9, another anti-narcotics mission in Nairobi’s Kasarani area led to the arrest of three individuals. During that operation, officers recovered a significant haul that included 50 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 810 rolls of bhang, and 30 hash-infused cookies. All suspects were taken into custody, and the seized items are being used as evidence.
Further south, in Kwale County, another major seizure occurred on May 31 when police apprehended a suspect at Makina Chini Village. Officers from Mackinnon Road Police Station raided a residence and found six sacks filled with suspected cannabis. Additionally, 73 sticks of cannabis were recovered from two rooms within the house. Of these, 40 were found loose on a bed, while the remaining 33 were neatly wrapped in brown paper and hidden inside a jerrycan.
According to police reports, the operation uncovered a sophisticated method of concealing narcotics within household items and rooms. The suspect was arrested on-site and remains in custody pending further legal procedures.
The recent arrests and drug seizures highlight the increasing vigilance of law enforcement agencies in cracking down on the illegal drug trade. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities and support ongoing efforts to keep communities drug-free. As operations intensify, the message is clear: involvement in drug trafficking will not be tolerated, and violators will face the full force of the law.
