Police officers in Kiambaa Sub-County, Kiambu, have arrested a suspected armed robber believed to be behind a string of violent attacks that had left residents in fear. The 26-year-old man was tracked down after authorities received actionable intelligence from members of the public who had grown increasingly concerned about rising insecurity in Rweno and surrounding areas.
According to investigators, the suspect had been on their radar for some time and was considered one of the key individuals fueling the spate of robberies in the region. Acting on a tip-off, officers mounted a swift operation that led to his capture in a rented hideout.
Once in custody, the suspect directed police to his residence, where a detailed search was conducted. During the operation, officers recovered a retay falcon pistol, which they believe was used in several recent robberies. The weapon has been forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis to establish links with previously reported crimes.
Authorities say the arrest marks a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the area. The suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court to face multiple charges, including robbery with violence and illegal possession of a firearm.
This latest operation comes just days after police in Garissa announced another significant success in the fight against armed robberies. In that case, a 37-year-old woman was apprehended following the violent theft of a Glock 17 pistol from a licensed firearm holder. The incident occurred on the night of August 5, when three armed assailants attacked the victim as he returned home from evening prayers. The attackers, armed with an AK-47, a pistol, and a rungu, rendered the victim unconscious before making away with his firearm and cash.
Subsequent investigations led officers to track down the female suspect in Madogo. A search of her residence in Bula Kartasi uncovered the stolen Glock 17 pistol loaded with 17 live rounds, alongside a pistol holster, a military smoke jacket, a service belt, and 11 passports bearing different identities.
Security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on criminal elements, urging the public to remain vigilant and to continue sharing information that can help curb crime. The coordinated arrests in Kiambaa and Garissa highlight ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in affected regions.
