Three individuals were arrested following a robbery incident that targeted mourners in the Daraja Mbili area of Mayatta B, Kisumu County. The suspects were apprehended after a swift response by officers from Kasagam Police Station, who were on foot patrol at the time.
The robbery occurred at the homestead of the late Susan Achieng’ Otieno, where residents had gathered for funeral arrangements. Armed suspects stormed the compound, targeting those in attendance. A distress call from one of the mourners alerted police, who managed to respond quickly with assistance from members of the community.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects while others managed to flee the scene. A blue TVS motorcycle, registration number KMFK 840L, believed to have been used in the crime, was recovered from those arrested. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to capture the remaining accomplices.
Police acknowledged the role of local residents in aiding the arrests and encouraged continued cooperation. They appealed for any additional information that might help identify and arrest those who escaped.
In a separate incident, detectives are pursuing a gang responsible for the fatal shooting of a fuel station attendant in Kitheo area, Tigania, Meru County. The attack took place on the night of July 23, when the attendant, identified as 26-year-old Josephat Muriithi, was confronted by three men on a motorcycle.
After requesting a refill for their bike, one of the men grabbed Muriithi and demanded the day’s earnings. He resisted, prompting another assailant to draw a pistol and shoot him in the chest and armpit. Despite trying to escape, Muriithi collapsed a short distance from the scene and died.
Interestingly, the attackers fled the scene without taking any money. Police later recovered Ksh8,150 from the victim’s pockets. The money was handed over to his colleague, while the body was moved to the mortuary.
Officers recovered a spent cartridge at the scene, which has been taken for forensic ballistic analysis. Investigations into the incident continue as authorities seek to bring the perpetrators to justice.
