In a major anti-narcotics operation carried out in Kasarani, Nairobi, three individuals were arrested and a large quantity of cannabis and other related substances seized. The raid, conducted on Monday, June 9, 2025, saw law enforcement officers recover approximately 50 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 30 hash-infused cookies, and 810 rolls of bhang.
The operation was part of a broader intelligence-led initiative aimed at curbing the distribution and use of illicit drugs in urban areas. Acting on gathered intelligence, officers swooped in on a location within Kasarani believed to be a hub for drug trafficking activities. The suspects were taken into custody and are currently being held at the Kasarani Police Station as they await arraignment in court.
Alongside the arrests, all the confiscated substances were secured at the station and will be used as exhibits in the upcoming court proceedings. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that individuals involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics are brought to justice.
Law enforcement officials highlighted the importance of public cooperation in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. They commended local residents for providing crucial information that made the successful operation possible. The involvement of the community in such efforts is increasingly being seen as essential to sustaining progress in the ongoing war against drugs.
The Kasarani incident is not an isolated case. Just a day earlier, a similar anti-narcotics operation was conducted in Bungoma West sub-county. During this operation, officers arrested a woman at her home in Nabuloli Village and confiscated 154 rolls of cannabis sativa. The raid was initiated following a tip-off from concerned members of the community.
The suspect from the Bungoma operation was placed in custody at Sirisia Police Station, with plans underway to present her before the Sirisia Law Courts. As in the Kasarani case, all evidence recovered during the raid has been securely stored at the police station.
Both operations demonstrate the authorities’ increased vigilance and proactive stance against the spread of narcotics. They also illustrate the growing trend of community-police collaboration in tackling drug-related crimes. In both cases, officers acknowledged that the successful outcomes would not have been possible without timely and reliable information from the public.
Drug abuse remains a significant challenge in many parts of the country, particularly in densely populated urban and peri-urban areas. The recent seizures highlight not only the prevalence of cannabis distribution but also evolving trends, such as the infusion of narcotics into consumable products like cookies.
Law enforcement agencies have called on the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities. They emphasized that the war on drugs is not one that can be won by the police alone, urging continuous support and vigilance from the wider community.
With more operations planned, authorities have vowed to sustain pressure on drug dealers and dismantle trafficking networks across the country. The success of recent raids sends a clear message that drug-related offenses will not be tolerated and that those found engaging in such activities will face the full force of the law.
