A British national collapsed and died at an ATM lobby in Kinoo, Kiambu County, in a tragic incident that has prompted a full investigation by local authorities and diplomatic officials.
The man, identified as 58-year-old Andrew Paul Hayward, had reportedly been visiting a friend in the area on the evening of July 21 when the incident occurred. According to eyewitnesses, he had just completed a transaction at the ATM of a local bank branch, withdrawing an undisclosed amount of money. Moments after stepping away from the machine, he suddenly collapsed inside the lobby.
Alarmed by the unexpected medical emergency, members of the public quickly contacted his friend, who rushed to the scene in a vehicle and immediately drove him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Police officers arrived at the bank shortly after and secured the scene to begin their investigations. The body was later moved to Chiromo Mortuary in Nairobi, where a postmortem examination has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials at the British High Commission in Nairobi were promptly informed of the incident and are reportedly cooperating with Kenyan authorities in the ongoing inquiry.
While the cause of death is yet to be officially established, investigators are not ruling out natural causes or a possible underlying medical condition. Surveillance footage from the ATM lobby and other forensic evidence are expected to play a critical role in piecing together the final moments leading to Hayward’s collapse.
In a separate but equally tragic incident in Bondo, Siaya County, a 20-year-old woman identified as Janetrix Alunga died after being bitten by a snake. The attack occurred in Goma village. The young woman was rushed to a local health facility but unfortunately succumbed to the effects of the venom.
Both incidents have sparked concern in their respective communities, with local leaders urging vigilance and faster emergency response to help save lives in such unpredictable emergencies. Authorities continue to investigate both deaths to provide clarity and closure to the affected families.
