A somber mood has engulfed Athambu village in Tigania, Meru County, after a 14-year-old boy was brutally murdered in a shocking attack. The Grade Nine pupil at Athambu Primary School was found lifeless in his family compound on Thursday evening, sending the community into mourning.
The teenager’s body bore deep head injuries and bruises on the back, signs of the violent assault he endured. Witnesses said the boy had been herding cattle with a friend when a man known to them launched the fatal attack. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, leaving villagers and authorities puzzled.
Tension rose in the area after news of the death spread. An enraged mob responded by torching the suspect’s house soon after he fled the scene. Police have since launched a manhunt for the attacker, warning that villagers may take the law into their own hands if he is caught before being arrested. Officers have appealed to the fugitive to surrender for his own safety and to face justice.
The body of the slain boy was taken to the mortuary for autopsy as part of the ongoing investigations. Locals have vowed to work alongside police in tracking down the suspect, insisting that justice must be served for the young victim.
In a separate incident in Naivasha, Nakuru County, the lifeless body of a 55-year-old man identified as Andrew Nganga was discovered in his home. Authorities reported no visible injuries, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem to establish the cause of death.
Meanwhile, tragedy also struck in Kapa along the Syokimau-Mlolongo railway line, where a speeding commuter train claimed the life of a man who attempted to cross the tracks. The victim suffered fatal head injuries, and his body was found about two meters from the railway line after impact. Police collected the body for identification and autopsy.
Kenya Railways has intensified campaigns against unsafe crossing of railway tracks, citing a worrying rise in accidents of this nature. Despite the warnings, many continue to disregard safety rules, exposing themselves to fatal risks.
