Authorities are investigating three separate tragic incidents reported in Kiambu, Nyandarua, and Kajiado counties, all of which resulted in loss of life under deeply unfortunate circumstances.
In Kikuyu, Kiambu County, two supermarket workers were found dead inside the premises where they were employed. The deceased, aged 36 and 33, are believed to have been electrocuted while cleaning the kitchen floor. Initial findings indicate that a live wire may have been in contact with water on the floor, creating a deadly hazard. At the time of discovery, both men were barefoot and unresponsive, lying in a pool of water. Their bodies were discovered by a manager who immediately alerted the authorities. Kenya Power and Lighting Company officials visited the scene to assist with the investigation. The bodies were later transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
This incident underscores the ongoing danger posed by electrical hazards in workplaces. Officials continue to run public awareness campaigns to curb the rising number of electrocution cases, particularly those resulting from poor wiring, illegal power connections, and limited awareness of electrical safety protocols.
In a separate incident in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, the body of a 58-year-old man was discovered within his homestead. He was known to live alone, and preliminary investigations suggest he may have fallen and sustained fatal injuries while returning home. With no one present to offer assistance, the situation turned fatal. Authorities have moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, in Magadi, Kajiado County, a suspected elephant attack has claimed the life of a 58-year-old herder. The man’s body was discovered in a bushy area near Torosei village by fellow herders who were tending their livestock. Reports from the scene indicate the man was likely on his way to a nearby shopping centre when he encountered the elephant. His body bore multiple injuries consistent with an attack by a large wild animal.
This incident has reignited concerns over human-wildlife conflict in Kajiado County, an area that has experienced several similar cases in recent years. Despite various mitigation efforts by authorities and conservation agencies, encounters between residents and wildlife remain a persistent challenge. Kenya Wildlife Service officers responded to the scene and helped transport the body to the mortuary for further investigation.
The three incidents serve as stark reminders of the vulnerabilities that exist in everyday life, whether due to workplace hazards, lack of timely help, or dangers posed by nature. Investigations are ongoing in all cases to establish full facts and prevent future tragedies.
