A series of tragic events across Kenya have left several families in mourning as authorities launch investigations into incidents ranging from suspected food poisoning to multiple cases of suspected homicide.
In Embu County, a 13-year-old boy from Mbeere died following a suspected case of food poisoning. The boy, a pupil at Kabuguri Primary School, reportedly attended a neighbourhood event where he consumed food and drinks that are believed to have been contaminated. The incident occurred on May 11, when several locals, including the deceased, began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea. Six others who exhibited similar symptoms were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Sadly, the boy succumbed to the illness at home before he could be taken to a health facility. He had complained of severe stomach pain and had been vomiting. In response, health officials and police visited the area to assess the situation and begin an investigation into the cause of the suspected food contamination. The boy’s body was transferred to a mortuary for an autopsy, as part of the ongoing inquiry into the source of the poisoning and the possible presence of a harmful substance.
Elsewhere in the country, law enforcement agencies are handling a disturbing number of suspected murder cases. In Kitengela, Kajiado County, the body of a man was discovered abandoned by the roadside on May 12. The deceased had suffered visible injuries to the head, a broken right leg, bruises on his back, and was wearing a torn black T-shirt and navy blue shorts. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the killing, and the body was taken to a mortuary for identification and a postmortem examination.
In Tharaka Nithi County, a woman’s body was found on the banks of the Ruguti River. The woman had sustained a deep cut to the back of her head and had a ruptured stomach. She was dressed in black trousers, and a yellow jersey was found beside her body. A beige handbag was also discovered a few meters away from the scene. The body, which had begun to decompose, was transported to Chuka General Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy.
Another suspected murder case emerged in Tala, Kangundo, Machakos County. There, a man was found dead by the roadside in Ngonda village, near the Tala-Kangundo road. His body bore deep cuts on the right upper chest and the left calf, along with a fresh wound on the back of his head. The victim was taken to Kangundo Level Four mortuary as investigations continue.
In Mbooni, Makueni County, a man’s body was discovered in a roadside trench along the Tawa-Masii road. Evidence of a struggle was noted in nearby bushes, and police recovered a bloodstained stone, which was collected as an exhibit. The body was taken to a local mortuary for further examination.
Meanwhile, in Kondele, Kisumu County, a 35-year-old man, identified as Henry Ochieng Ambayo, was found dead in his house. His body was discovered lying on the bed. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of his sudden death.
Authorities across the affected counties have launched full investigations into each of the incidents, and postmortem examinations are expected to provide critical information as families await justice and answers.
