A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Majengo, Kitui Town, where the lifeless body of a one-year-old boy was discovered in a septic tank after he had been missing for several hours. The child’s disappearance began on September 28, 2025, when his mother left him in the house to buy medicine for her ailing husband. Upon her return moments later, she found that her son was missing.
When she questioned her husband about the child’s whereabouts, he claimed that the boy had left the house while he went to fetch charcoal from a nearby shop. However, neighbours who had been present earlier reported that they hadn’t seen the man leave the house as he had claimed. The woman, sensing something was wrong, prompted a search of the premises, which led to the chilling discovery of her child’s body floating in the septic tank.
Police suspect that the boy was strangled before being thrown into the tank, which was covered by a manhole. The man, who is the child’s stepfather, has been arrested in connection with the crime. As of now, police are yet to confirm the motive behind the tragic murder. The body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
This incident follows another tragic event in Kisii County, where a 30-year-old man was lynched by a mob after being accused of stealing two chickens. The locals reportedly raised an alarm, and the man was stoned to death before police could intervene. Mob justice continues to raise concerns, with police urging communities to report suspects to authorities for proper handling, rather than resorting to violence.
Elsewhere, a woman in Meru County was arrested after the body of a 67-year-old man, Paul Gichira, was found outside her house. The man had suffered a head injury, and the cause of death remains under investigation. Similarly, detectives are looking into the murder of a 32-year-old woman, Jepkoech Longole, whose decomposed body was discovered in her house in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The woman had physical injuries, and blood stains were found at the scene, leading police to suspect foul play.
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenge of violent crime across the country, with police investigations continuing in all cases.
