Detectives in Kisauni Sub-County have arrested two men believed to be behind a violent robbery that left one man dead and residents living in fear. The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Chigamba Salim Dalu and 27-year-old Hassan Ndegwa Nyota, are said to be part of a five-man gang that staged a midnight attack at a homestead in Majaoni, Kisauni.
The gang allegedly stormed the residence in the dead of night, shooting the man of the house in the ribs before escaping with a 75-inch Hisense television, two mobile phones, and other valuables. The victim was rushed to Coast General Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Following the brutal incident, detectives immediately launched a manhunt to track down the attackers. Investigators traced Chigamba to a hideout in Kinango, where he was arrested and found in possession of one of the stolen phones. His alleged accomplice, Hassan, was later cornered in Mombasa town after a follow-up operation. Both suspects were taken into custody for interrogation.
Authorities believe the two, together with three still-at-large accomplices, have been behind a series of violent robberies targeting residents in Kisauni and surrounding areas. Their arrest is considered a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb rising cases of insecurity in the region.
The two suspects are currently undergoing processing as investigations continue. Detectives are pursuing crucial leads to track down the remaining three accomplices, who are believed to still be within the coastal region. The arrested suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of residents in Kisauni, an area that has previously witnessed several cases of gang-related violence and robberies. Locals have called for heightened security patrols, especially at night, to protect families and businesses from such attacks.
Security agencies have reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to dismantle criminal gangs operating in the area. They have urged residents to remain vigilant and provide any information that could assist in bringing the remaining suspects to justice.
The arrest of the two men marks an important step in restoring peace and security in Kisauni, with authorities determined to ensure that violent crime does not take root in the community.
