Two suspects are on the run after police uprooted a farm believed to be cultivating Cannabis sativa in Nyeri County. The operation, carried out on August 8, 2025, involved officers from Kigogoini Police Post working alongside the local area chief and members of the Nyumba Kumi community policing team.
The successful intervention was prompted by a tip-off from residents who reported unusual activities on the property. According to authorities, the farm was actively being used for the illegal cultivation of bhang. During the raid, officers seized stems of the suspected plants, which have been preserved as exhibits for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Police have identified two individuals of interest, believed to be brothers, who fled the scene before the operation was completed. A manhunt has been launched to track them down, with officers urging members of the public to share any information regarding their whereabouts. Officials have stressed the importance of community cooperation in the fight against illegal drugs, vowing to sustain efforts to eradicate such activities.
This bust adds to a growing list of anti-narcotics operations in the country. Just months ago, law enforcement uncovered a similar cultivation site in Kikuyu, where bhang was being grown on a farm. That case also led to a manhunt for the farm owner and his two farmhands.
In a related incident, police in Wajir County arrested a suspect transporting illegal bhang on August 4, 2025. Acting on intelligence from a concerned member of the public, officers stationed at the Watiti Roadblock stopped a motorbike rider who attempted to evade the checkpoint. Upon searching him, police recovered a blue safari bag containing approximately three kilograms of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing those involved in the cultivation, trafficking, and distribution of illegal drugs. They have encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help curb the spread of narcotics in communities.
Efforts to apprehend the two Nyeri suspects remain ongoing, with police confident that the cooperation of the public will lead to their swift capture.
