A 32-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing and killing her husband during a bar fight in the Chepalungu area of Bomet County. The incident, which occurred at dawn on November 25, has left residents in shock as police try to piece together what sparked the deadly confrontation.
According to witnesses, the couple had visited the bar for refreshments before an argument broke out. What started as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, the woman reportedly grabbed a beer bottle, smashed it, and used the jagged edges to stab her husband, Bernard Kipkoech, 36, in the neck.
Kipkoech suffered a deep wound and bled profusely. He was rushed to Tenwek Mission Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was later arrested and is being held pending arraignment. Police say they have yet to establish the motive behind the argument that led to the fatal attack.
The body has been moved to the mortuary awaiting an autopsy as investigations continue.
In a separate incident in Eldas, Wajir County, a young shopkeeper was found dead in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. Locals said they became concerned when 22-year-old James Munene failed to open his shop on Monday morning. After forcing the door open, they found him hanging from a rafter with a rope around his neck. The motive remains unknown, and the body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, in Kitengela Town, Kajiado County, a 21-year-old Rwandese national was stoned to death after being accused of theft. Police say the man was attacked behind a petrol station by a mob that suspected him of stealing. Investigations into the lynching are ongoing.
Elsewhere in Nairobi’s Muthaga area, two suspects were arrested after a botched mobile phone robbery. The pair allegedly snatched a phone from a woman before fleeing on a motorcycle. Fellow boda boda riders gave chase, caught up with them, and handed them over to police. The stolen phone was recovered.
Authorities say cases of mobile phone snatching continue to rise and investigations are underway to curb the trend.
